On October 17th, in Beijing, Xia Baolong, the Director of the Central Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office and the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, met with a delegation from the Hong Kong Association of Professionals for Modernization, led by Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Leung Chun-ying.
During the meeting, Xia highlighted the active role that the Hong Kong Association of Professionals for Modernization has played over its 45-year history. He commended the organization for its unwavering commitment and for leveraging Hong Kong’s strengths in various sectors, including law, finance, trade, accounting, certification, and urban planning. Their contributions have been significant in advancing the nation’s reform and opening-up policies, modernizing the country, and ensuring prosperity and stability in Hong Kong.
Xia encouraged the association to continue utilizing the advantages of the “one country, two systems” framework. He urged members to remain focused on the needs of the country and the strengths of Hong Kong, keep pace with the times, accurately assess changes, adapt scientifically, and proactively seek transformation. He emphasized the importance of firmly supporting the Chief Executive and the Special Administrative Region’s government in their lawful governance, and called for the association to play a larger role in promoting the progress and flourishing of Hong Kong. Xia expressed hope that they would contribute even more significantly to the comprehensive advancement of China’s modernization and the great cause of national rejuvenation.
Zhou Ji, the Deputy Director responsible for daily operations at the Central Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office and the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, was also present at the meeting.
