On October 19, 2023, amidst the stunning backdrop of a bright blue sky and lush green parks, Wuzhou in Guangxi has transformed into a vibrant example of harmonious co-existence between nature and humanity. The city has gained popularity on social media for its picturesque scenery, showcasing its newly adopted identity as an “ecological haven.” This has attracted an increasing number of tourists eager to capture the beauty on their cameras.
At Rose Lake Park on October 13, the balmy autumn day revealed a landscape rich in greenery. Recent efforts to enhance the park’s environment included planting trees and constructing green pathways, creating a beautiful ecological setting. “Green development is the foundation of quality growth,” said a city spokesperson, emphasizing Wuzhou’s commitment to increasing green spaces, improving urban greenery, and enhancing rural living conditions.
The park features a delightful array of plants, where different species of shrubs and trees create a layered, harmonious environment. Birds such as egrets and the rare white pelican, a nationally protected species, have made the park their home, much to the delight of nature enthusiasts. “At first, we only spotted egrets, but then I noticed a few birds that looked similar but had distinctive beaks. It turned out they were white pelicans. This shows that the park’s ecological environment has greatly improved,” noted photography enthusiast Mr. Li.
Moreover, Wuzhou has been actively revitalizing its urban parks such as Pantang, Canghai, and Zhushan, and expanding green corridors and pocket parks for public use. This meticulous planning has led to a network of parks and green spaces throughout the city, connecting various natural and cultural landmarks, which have become appealing features of urban life.
Venturing into Wang’an Village, located in Jingnan Town, visitors are greeted by the sight of local residents cultivating Liu Bao tea in their front yards. This initiative, part of a program to transform the bamboo forest into a tea garden, has enabled farmers to maximize their production and sales, effectively turning idle plots into “green courtyards” and income-generating spaces.
Wuzhou has also made significant strides in rural development through initiatives like “Three Cleanings and Three Removals” and beautification projects. By leveraging local resources—geographic advantages, agricultural products, and cultural heritage—the villages have seen notable improvements in their appearances and living conditions, fostering a deeper integration of ecology with culture, tourism, and rural revitalization.
During springtime, the view along National Road 321 from Mengshan to Lipu is spectacular, as blooming pink bauhinia flowers line the road while colorful painted sidewalks enhance the aesthetic, creating a stunning visual of a vibrant highway and pastoral landscape.
Building on the “Four Good Rural Roads” initiative, Mengshan County has focused on enhancing its green landscape and improving road infrastructure, providing better travel experiences. This approach integrates highway construction with modern agriculture and rural tourism, resulting in beautifully crafted roadways that enhance connectivity and village charm.
With each urban and rural greening effort, Wuzhou continues to thrive as its ecological environment improves. Brighter skies, greener landscapes, and clearer waters have become commonplace, establishing the city as a model of sustainable growth.
