On October 14, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding announced via its official WeChat account that, in accordance with the China-U.S. cooperative agreement for the international protection of giant pandas, two pandas named Lun Lun and Yang Yang, along with their twin cubs, Ya Lun and Xi Lun, safely arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport on a special flight at 7:13 PM Beijing time on October 13. Accompanied by a veterinary team, all four pandas were confirmed to be in good health and were successfully transferred to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where they will undergo a quarantine period of at least one month.
As per the cooperative agreement, Lun Lun and Yang Yang have resided at the Atlanta Zoo since their arrival in the United States in 1999. During their time there, they received excellent care, resulting in the successful birth of seven cubs from five litters. This achievement stands as a testament to the successful international breeding cooperation between China and regions in Europe and America. Through their international collaboration on panda breeding, behavior training, veterinary preventive medicine, and conservation education, both parties have engaged in vibrant academic exchanges, yielding fruitful results. These efforts have significantly contributed to advancing the technological levels of giant panda conservation research and promoting the overall development of panda protection initiatives. They have also played a crucial role in enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the people of China and the United States.
