As Typhoon Connie approaches, the Flood Control and Drought Relief Command Office of Fujian Province activated a Level IV emergency response at 5 PM on October 27.
At 2 PM on the same day, the center of Typhoon Connie was located approximately 1,350 kilometers southeast of Hualien County, Taiwan, with maximum winds near the center reaching 8 on the Beaufort scale. The Fujian Provincial Meteorological Station issued a Level IV typhoon alert at 5 PM, forecasting that the typhoon’s center would move west-northwest at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, gradually increasing in strength to potentially reach severe or exceptionally strong typhoon levels as it approaches the northeastern waters of Taiwan.
Meteorological experts have warned that from October 29 onward, there could be significant marine wind hazard risks along Fujian’s coastal areas and fishing grounds. They advise vessels navigating or operating in affected regions to return to port for safety or avoid impacted areas. Additionally, safety management measures for offshore platforms and tourism activities related to islands should be reinforced, and coastal aquaculture facilities need to be secured in advance.
The Fujian Flood Control Office has urged all localities to closely monitor the typhoon’s development over the sea, trigger emergency responses as needed, and strengthen organizational command to effectively implement defense measures.
Due to adverse sea conditions, the passenger ferry service between Mawei in Fuzhou and Matsu will be suspended in both directions on October 28.
