During a recent briefing in Changchun, Jilin province, titled “The Story of the Communist Party of China—Practices of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in Northeast China,” leaders from the three northeastern provinces and one autonomous region shared insights with over 200 political leaders and diplomats from more than 50 countries. They explored the comprehensive revitalization efforts underway in Northeast China, offering a new frame of reference for global regional coordinated development.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party, the leadership under Xi Jinping has embraced a new development philosophy, formulating and refining regional coordination strategies. Xi has frequently visited Northeast China, holding discussions specifically on revitalization efforts in the region. His leadership has paved the way for a new path of high-quality, sustainable development in Northeast China.
In recent years, the Northeast has witnessed remarkable growth, characterized by enhanced economic vitality and improving living standards. Jilin, a standout in this “Rooster of China,” achieved GDP growth rates of 6.3% last year and 5.7% in the first half of this year. The region boasts a unique position in the history of the New China’s automotive industry, film sector, and civil aviation.
Currently, Jilin’s automobile sales have surged 60 times over six years, establishing the Hongqi brand as a true national icon. CRRC Changchun’s products are exported to over 20 countries and regions, while “Jilin 1,” a satellite system, constitutes the world’s largest commercial remote sensing constellation. Additionally, the province has maintained a grain output exceeding 80 billion jin for three consecutive years, and its top-notch ski resorts are becoming comparable to the Alps. Notably, Jilin also leads the global production of carbon fiber raw materials.
Huang Qiang, the Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Committee, emphasized that development must prioritize quality; otherwise, the region’s revitalization and China’s modernization cannot succeed. “With courage to tackle challenges and confidence to overcome difficulties, we are advancing systemic and institutional innovations, breathing new life into Jilin’s revitalization,” he stated.
The policy of reform and opening up has been crucial to the region’s revival. The G331 coastal tourism corridor, stretching along the Tumen and Yalu rivers, has attracted vitality and lasting prosperity to border areas. Heilongjiang province engages in trade with over 200 countries and regions, and is accelerating its development as a new hub for China’s northern expansion.
Xu Qun, the Secretary of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee, highlighted the province’s commitment to Xi Jinping’s vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, actively engaging in multilateral trade and enhancing economic cooperation with nations around the world. “We are eager to share the benefits of China’s reform and development with the globe,” he remarked.
Liaoning province, the only one in Northeast China that is both coastal and border-oriented, benefits from comprehensive connectivity. Secretary Hao Peng stated that the province is prioritizing deep reforms, particularly in optimizing the business environment. Liaoning has embraced a tripartite partnership among state-owned, private, and foreign enterprises, with a growing number of active businesses reaching 5.23 million and a 67% activity rate. Growing external confidence is evident, as more companies are drawn to invest in Liaoning, leading to a consensus that “the mountain pass can’t hold back investment from Liaoning.”
Inner Mongolia, located in Northern China, serves as an important ecological and energy hub, as well as a major agricultural production area and a critical gateway for northern expansion. Secretary Sun Shaocheng reported robust growth in the region’s energy sector, with over 1.23 billion tons of coal production last year and a total installed electric capacity exceeding 200 million kilowatts, nearly half of which comes from renewable sources. The region’s green energy initiatives are poised to make significant contributions to global carbon reduction efforts.
These statistics reflect Northeast China’s dynamic growth and vitality. At the briefing, international guests praised the significant achievements of China’s economic and social development in the new era, expressing renewed confidence in China’s economic prospects through their firsthand observations of the region’s progress.
