The safety of older drivers has emerged as a significant social concern. In California, there is no maximum age limit for renewing a driver’s license. This means that as long as seniors meet vision standards and do not have a physician’s “not fit to drive” order, they are allowed to drive regardless of their age. However, in recent years, there appears to be an increase in traffic incidents involving older drivers. Most alarmingly, there have been recent reports of seniors mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the brake, leading to tragic accidents resulting in pedestrians being struck and killed. This situation highlights the need for greater attention to the safety of senior drivers on our roads.
