The 16th BRICS summit recently took place from October 22 to 24 in Kazan, Russia, drawing significant attention from international media. Observers note that the appeal of BRICS nations is on the rise, and the cooperative framework they offer is instrumental in promoting a more equitable and just global order.

An article in the Russian newspaper Caucasian Herald highlights the growing scale of BRICS, with an increasing number of countries eager to join or collaborate with the bloc. The BRICS partnership serves as a platform for dialogue among nations with diverse cultures and backgrounds.

According to CNBC, the influence of BRICS nations has intensified since their recent expansion in January. For countries seeking to boost trade, investment, and economic development, aligning with BRICS presents a compelling opportunity.

The Singapore-based Lianhe Zaobao notes that discussions are underway within BRICS to advance membership expansion and the establishment of partner countries. Citing remarks from Chinese President Xi Jinping, the report emphasizes the importance of true multilateralism and a collaborative approach to global governance. Xi urged the group to heed the rise of the Global South and to bolster the representation and voice of developing countries in global governance.

Brazilian news agency Agência Brasil quoted President Lula, who stressed that BRICS cooperation is crucial for reducing inequality and serves as a model for other regions. He highlighted that since its inception, the New Development Bank has mobilized resources for infrastructure needs among BRICS nations, fostering economic growth.

Indian Prime Minister Modi praised the achievements of BRICS in the global economy and underscored the significance of the New Development Bank for Global South countries. He advocated for enhanced economic cooperation within BRICS and looked forward to taking further steps in this direction.

South Africa’s News24 reported that BRICS promotes multilateralism, mutual cooperation, and sustainable development, playing a vital role in a multipolar world. The expansion of BRICS is seen as an opportunity to foster mutually beneficial partnerships, contributing to sustainable growth in South Africa.

Egypt’s Al-Ahram cited President Sisi, who noted that the expansion of BRICS reflects a shared vision among member states to enhance multilateral cooperation and amplify the voices of developing countries on various international platforms. Egypt supports strengthening coordination among BRICS nations to tackle global challenges such as climate change, poverty, hunger, and the digital divide.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy remarked, as covered by the Ethiopian News Agency, that BRICS holds unique advantages in galvanizing support for a fair and effective multilateralism. As a new member of BRICS, Ethiopia is eager to constructively engage in promoting multilateralism based on principles of fairness.

The Emirates News Agency reported that BRICS leaders discussed the theme of “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” sharing views on major international issues and reiterating the importance of enhancing unity and cooperation among BRICS nations. They also expressed serious concerns regarding the situation in Palestine, calling for emergency humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

According to Iranian President Pezeshkian, as reported by Iranian news agency IRNA, BRICS has taken significant steps to address regional and international crises, including last year’s special video summit on the Israel-Palestine issue, which yielded positive outcomes.

Experts quoted by Russian news agency Sputnik pointed out that BRICS represents a diverse cooperation mechanism that emphasizes equality and mutual benefit among its members. As a leading force of the Global South, BRICS is poised to contribute to promoting a more balanced and inclusive global multipolarity and economic globalization.
