On October 8, a reporter from China News Service in Wuhan learned from the Hubei Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism that the province is gearing up for an exciting National Day holiday in 2024. They plan to unveil a variety of new cultural and tourism experiences, enhancing their overall offerings and aiming to stimulate both supply and demand in the market.
During the holiday, the Hankou Riverfront in Wuhan will come alive with a series of cultural performances that promise to draw crowds of visitors and locals alike. Meanwhile, the Sky City scenic area in Huangshi is set to create a lively atmosphere featuring “flash mob” performances, a mech parade celebrating national trends, traditional Chinese magic acts, Sichuan opera face-changing, ethnic dances, and acrobatics.
This year, tourists are increasingly interested in short-term, urban leisure activities and rural getaways. Liangzi Lake in Ezhou will be a hotspot for crab enthusiasts, with visitors flocking from Wuhan, Huangshi, and Ezhou to enjoy leisurely rides and scenic drives along the lakeside greenway. In Xiangyang, the Guanjia Alley is planning a captivating National Day celebration that includes eight major performances highlighting the heroism, poetic beauty, and musical traditions of the region, along with folk performances that feature magical stunts, acrobatics, and classical music.
The trend of nighttime cultural consumption is also on the rise. Visitors can look forward to immersive night tours and performances that offer new experiences. The East Lake Scenic Area in Wuhan will host the “Moonlight East Lake” night tour, allowing guests to enjoy a boat ride accompanied by a dance performance inspired by the rich heritage of Chu and Han culture, creating a memorable journey through time. Similarly, the Wudang Mountain Taiji Night Cultural and Tourism District will showcase a “National Trend Art” area complete with interactive light shows, water-based Taiji performances, and captivating sound art, providing an immersive night tour experience.
Throughout the holiday, over 200 special events—including art festivals, music festivals, harvest celebrations, sports competitions, and evening performances—will unfold at Hubei’s A-level tourist attractions. Professional performing arts troupes are also set to present roughly 200 benefit performances at theaters, scenic spots, communities, and rural areas. The Hubei Provincial Museum expects to welcome over 150,000 visitors during this festive period with multiple exhibitions and events.
To further stimulate tourism, more than 300 tourism sites, hotels, and cultural businesses across the province will offer a range of promotional deals, including free admissions, ticket discounts, package offers, and consumption vouchers. In addition, the Hubei Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism has launched a 100 million yuan cultural tourism product package aimed specifically at encouraging college freshmen to engage with the cultural and tourism landscape.
