During his inspection in Fujian, Xi Jinping emphasized that we should not relax our goals, draw a blueprint to the end, and strive to be the first in Chinese-style modernization.

Recently, during an inspection tour in Fujian, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of thoroughly implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress and the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee. He urged that Fujian should adhere to the new development philosophy, maintain a steady yet progressive approach, and stay committed to the goal of building a dynamic, industry-leading, prosperous, and ecologically beautiful new Fujian. He encouraged the province to make substantial progress in establishing a modern economic system, actively engage in and contribute to the new development patterns, explore new pathways for cross-strait integrated development, and achieve significant breakthroughs in creating high-quality living standards. Xi called for a comprehensive deepening of reforms and a holistic push for high-quality development as the province strives to take the lead in Chinese-style modernization.

From October 15 to 16, Xi visited various locations in Fujian, including Zhangzhou and Xiamen, accompanied by provincial leaders such as Zhou Zuyi, the Party Secretary of Fujian, and Zhao Long, the Governor.

On the afternoon of October 15, Xi began his visit in Dongshan County, Zhangzhou. In Aojiao Village, situated near the ocean in the southeastern part of the county, he learned how the village has flourished through maritime development in recent years. Walking along Aojiao Bay, Xi carefully observed the marine environment and the condition of the village, expressing his joy upon discovering the growth in seafood trade and the rising incomes of locals. He reminisced about his previous visit 23 years ago and noted the significant changes, expressing his optimism for the future of rural areas and the lives of farmers. He encouraged local party organizations to take a leading role in promoting maritime opportunities as they work toward rural revitalization and common prosperity.

Later, he visited the Gu Wenchang Memorial Hall, where he learned about the inspiring stories of Gu Wenchang and engaged with local officials who are committed to passing on the red legacy. Xi stressed the importance of evaluating officials based on public feedback and urged leaders at all levels to emulate Gu’s dedication to serving the people.

In the Guandi Cultural Industry Park, Xi was briefed on efforts to enhance cultural heritage protection and promote cultural exchanges across the strait. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding and passing on valuable cultural legacies.

On the morning of October 16, Xi visited the Xiamen area of the China (Fujian) Free Trade Pilot Zone. He toured an exhibition showcasing the achievements of the pilot zone and engaged in discussions with staff at the comprehensive service hall. He noted the remarkable changes in Xiamen over the past 40 years and stressed that the demands for reform and opening up, both in depth and breadth, are now higher than ever. He called on Fujian and Xiamen to adapt to evolving circumstances and systematically promote institutional openness, aligning with international high standards to yield substantial policy outcomes that bolster high-level external engagement.

In the afternoon, Xi received reports from the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government, commending their achievements and outlining clear directives for future work.

Xi emphasized the need for innovative integration of technology and industry. He encouraged building a comprehensive innovation-supporting system, reforming education and talent mechanisms, and strengthening high-level scientific innovation platforms. He urged localities to possess a solid foundation in the real economy while bolstering the advantages of traditional industries, advancing transformation and upgrading, and developing emerging strategic industries to ensure sustainable economic growth.

Moreover, Xi stressed the importance of deepening reform and expanding high-level openness, particularly in pivotal areas. He called for continued bold experimentation and self-directed change while focusing on public expectations in welfare reform.

Xi also highlighted the need for coordinated regional development and urban-rural integration, advocating for an enhanced collaborative mechanism that encompasses both mountain and marine resources. He urged for comprehensive ecological governance and rapid urban-rural integration, with an emphasis on revitalizing rural economies and ensuring the sustainability of agricultural land.

Culturally, Xi underlined the importance of enhancing cultural influence and presenting a new image of Fujian. He called for the promotion of revolutionary culture and better conservation of cultural heritages, while also encouraging deeper integration of culture and tourism as a pillar industry.

Finally, Xi stressed the need for officials to uphold traditions, embody a pioneering spirit, and maintain their commitment to serving the people. He called for practical measures to alleviate burdens on grassroots levels and enhance the effectiveness of party leadership in local governance.

In closing, Xi urged the full implementation of the Party Central Committee’s decisions and a focused effort on economic activities to achieve the annual socio-economic development goals. He was accompanied on this visit by He Lifeng and officials from relevant central and national departments.
