China’s snowy countryside welcomes the first snowfall this autumn during the frost festival

On October 23rd, in Mudanjiang, the China Snow Town scenic area, part of the Longjiang Forest Industry Group, experienced its first snowfall of the autumn season. The scene was beautifully transformed as fluffy snow blanketed rooftops, walkways, and tree branches, signaling the arrival of winter.

According to traditional Chinese solar terms, the Frost’s Descent (Shuangjiang) marks the end of autumn. A local saying goes, “Cold dew is not truly cold, but frost descent changes the weather.” By this time of year, northeastern China is typically characterized by falling leaves and fluttering snowflakes.

The snowfall began around 9 PM on the 22nd and continued until the morning of the 23rd, accumulating about 10 centimeters of snow over more than nine hours. Meteorological experts from Longjiang Forest Industry Group predict that the Snow Town region will experience additional snowfall throughout the upcoming week.

China Snow Town is renowned both nationally and internationally for its picturesque snowy landscapes, which are known for their extended snow season, substantial snowfall, and thick, powdery texture. In 2024, the scenic area plans to introduce new attractions, including Snow Source Avenue, riverside walking paths, and forest hiking trails. Existing attractions like Snow Charm Street, the Snow Town Theater, and Fairy Tale World are also undergoing significant upgrades, incorporating cartoon elements to enhance the charm and illumination of the area, making the fairy tale town even more romantic and inviting.

As of now, the snowfall has not disrupted transportation, construction, or daily life in Snow Town. The local authorities are fully committed to preparing for the winter tourism season, ensuring the scenic area will open on schedule this winter.
