On October 9, 2023, the Chengdu Rail Transit Group made an exciting announcement: all 23 stations from the first phase of Chengdu Metro Line 27 have officially been handed over to the operating company. This achievement sets a solid foundation for the line’s scheduled opening by the end of 2024. Notably, this phase marks Chengdu’s second fully automated metro line and the first to include an elevated section.
The Line 27 project spans approximately 24.86 kilometers, beginning at Shifo Station in the Xindu District and concluding at Shuxin Road Station in the Qingyang District. It comprises 23 stations in total, with six located above ground and 17 underground.
The journey to completing this line wasn’t without its obstacles, including extensive cross-district engineering, tight deadlines, and the simultaneous execution of multiple operations. In response to these challenges, Chengdu Rail Construction Management Co. adopted enhanced on-site logistics practices, significantly boosting operational efficiency. They implemented customized construction strategies for each station to effectively tackle issues during the handover process. Additionally, proactive emergency drills were carried out to prepare for the rainy season, ensuring safety and management even in heavy rainfall, which played a crucial role in the successful transfer of all 23 stations.
“When it comes to project management, we used a smart management platform that acts like the project’s ‘intelligent brain,’ allowing for real-time information sharing,” said a representative from Chengdu Metro Line 27.
Furthermore, the construction team introduced a “5G Traction Area Dispatch Command System” to maintain continuous signal connectivity throughout the tunnels. They also applied CPIII measurement technology, which allowed for precise adjustments to the track foundation, ensuring smooth and stable train operations. The adoption of SAC (Smart Assembly Construction) technology increased on-site assembly efficiency by 40%, achieving an overall assembly completion rate of 85%.
At this stage, all systems integration for the first phase of Chengdu Metro Line 27 has been finalized, and the team is now focusing on resolving any outstanding issues and preparing for administrative acceptance. Once it becomes operational, this line is set to enhance connections between the northern parts of the city and the central urban district, significantly improving the rapid transit experience and commuting conditions for residents along the route.
