Chasing a dream – teen delighted to duet with Lightbody

Many people fantasize about sharing the stage with their favorite band or rock star, and for 19-year-old Conor Bruen from Belfast, that dream has come true. Conor, who is autistic, recently had the extraordinary opportunity to sing Snow Patrol’s well-loved hit “Chasing Cars” alongside the band’s lead singer, Gary Lightbody. Their duet quickly became a sensation on social media.

So, how did this remarkable moment unfold? Conor revealed that it was a chance encounter during one of his weekly music classes at Drake Music NI on Springfield Road in Belfast. While he was busy recording his own music, he spotted Gary Lightbody in a nearby meeting room.

“I was recording my own music, and I asked him, ‘Gary, is this too noisy? Should I close the door?'” Conor recalled during a recent interview with BBC News NI. To his astonishment, he ended up inviting Gary to join him in song, and to his delight, Gary agreed.

“Honestly, I wasn’t nervous singing with Gary because I’ve performed in front of others at my school before,” Conor stated.

When asked about his choice of “Chasing Cars” for their performance, Conor simply responded, “Well, ‘Chasing Cars’ just makes me feel happy.”
