On October 21, a seminar titled “Promoting the Spirit of Chen Jialing and Realizing the Dream of National Rejuvenation” took place in Xiamen, marking the 150th anniversary of Mr. Chen Jialing’s birth.
Zhou Zuyi, the Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee, emphasized Mr. Chen Jialing’s profound legacy as a notable patriotic overseas Chinese leader, entrepreneur, educator, philanthropist, and social activist, calling him a “flagbearer for overseas Chinese and a beacon for the nation.” He urged participants to embody the qualities of resilience and dedication to the nation and its people, reflecting on Mr. Chen’s commitment to national construction and education. He noted the importance of leveraging the advantages of Fujian as a province rich in overseas Chinese, aiming to attract investments, gather wisdom, and unite the strength of overseas compatriots, guiding them to be part of the modernization efforts in Fujian.
Wan Lijun, the Chairman of the Chinese Overseas Chinese Federation, remarked on Mr. Chen Jialing’s pivotal role as the federation’s first chairman. He highlighted how Mr. Chen dedicated his life to expressing the deep affection of overseas Chinese for their homeland and families. As history unfolds, he called on organizations at all levels to unite and lead overseas Chinese and returnees, vigorously promoting the “Chen Jialing Spirit” to significantly contribute to China’s modernization and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
During the seminar, representatives from Mr. Chen’s descendants, the Jimei Alumni Association, the educators dedicated to Mr. Chen’s educational initiatives, and overseas guests took turns to speak.
“My grandfather left us with the teaching, ‘Be grateful and don’t forget your roots,'” shared Chen Liren, Mr. Chen’s great-grandson. He explained that the Chen family has its origins in the Central Plains but has established roots in southern Fujian and now has a global presence. He reaffirmed their commitment to continue the legacy of “Chen Jialing Spirit,” utilizing their family resources to unite the strength of overseas Chinese, and contribute to the development of Xiamen and the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
