On October 15th, a symposium focused on the in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping’s cultural thoughts was held in Beijing. Among the key attendees was Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Minister of the Publicity Department.
During the meeting, representatives highlighted that ten years ago, General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered a significant speech at a forum on literary and artistic work, which has since served as a guiding document for the advancement of arts and culture in the new era. The introduction of Xi Jinping’s cultural thoughts last year further clarified the importance of culture and the role of literature and arts, defining the mission and responsibilities of artistic endeavors in contemporary society and raising the banner of the Party’s cultural initiatives.
Participants recognized that on this new journey, it is essential to deeply study and practice Xi Jinping’s cultural thoughts. They emphasized the importance of adopting a people-centered creative approach, integrating results and talent development, as well as linking the creation of works with the cultivation of a supportive environment. Artists and writers should be encouraged to immerse themselves in life and focus on creating exceptional works, with a commitment to fostering artistic prosperity and reaching new heights in the arts. The representatives also stressed the need to unearth the contemporary value of excellent traditional Chinese culture and draw from the rich cultural achievements of other nations, aiming to better embody the Chinese spirit and promote mutual learning among civilizations.
The meeting was chaired by Tie Ning, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, with State Councilor Chen Yiqin also in attendance. Approximately 200 participants, including officials from relevant central departments, regional leaders, and representatives of writers and artists, took part in the discussions.
