Filmmaker, Austen-Peters, Joins African Filmmakers for AFS Film & TV Leadership Initiative Program

Bolanle Austen-Peters, the celebrated filmmaker and CEO of Terra Kulture Lagos, is set to participate in the American Film Showcase (AFS) Film & TV Leadership Initiative Program from October 9-23, 2024, across several U.S. cities, alongside a group of her esteemed colleagues.

Austen-Peters, whose recent films, “House of GA’A” and “Funmilayo”, have garnered significant critical acclaim, is excited about the opportunity to engage in this prestigious event, which promises to enhance artistic collaboration and cultural exchange.

“As a distinguished lawyer, along with being a multi-award-winning director and producer, I bring a wealth of experience to this program,” she shares enthusiastically. “’House of GA’A’ has achieved global recognition, landing a spot in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for indigenous language films. Moreover, my biopic ‘Funmilayo’ has set the record as the highest-grossing biopic in West African cinema history.”

Her production company, BAP Production, has gained prominence with productions like “Saro the Musical” and “Fela and the Kalakuta Queens”, both of which have received praise on international stages for their celebration of Nigerian culture.

Austen-Peters also founded the Terra Academy for the Arts, which has successfully trained over 24,000 individuals, nurturing talent and encouraging artistic exchanges.

“I am keen to share my insights and learn from my fellow participants in what I believe will be a transformative experience,” she adds, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity.
