On October 8, a reporter from China News Service in Taiyuan highlighted that the Shanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Bureau revealed impressive visitor statistics during the 2024 National Day holiday. Cultural and historical venues in Taiyuan attracted a staggering 1.3297 million guests, generating ticket revenues of approximately 19.85 million yuan. Notably, the sites directly managed by the Shanxi Cultural Heritage Bureau accounted for 911,800 of those visitors, contributing around 14.69 million yuan in ticket sales. This marks a year-on-year increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Since the launch of the game “Black Myth: Wukong” on August 20, the venues under the Cultural Heritage Bureau have welcomed a total of 2.5545 million visitors and generated 36.20 million yuan in ticket revenue. This represents an increase of 762,100 visitors and 11.57 million yuan over the previous year, showcasing significant growth of 42.52% in attendance and 46.98% in revenue.
In an effort to establish itself as a key cultural tourism destination, both locally and internationally, the bureau announced a special initiative for concert-goers attending the Phoenix Legend and Wang Feng concerts in Taiyuan. Ticket holders were granted free admission to several museums, including the Jin Family Temple Museum, Taishan Museum, Twin Pagoda Museum, Tianlong Mountain Grottoes Museum, Longshan Grottoes Museum, and Juewei Mountain Museum (which includes Dou Daifu Shrine, Duofu Temple, and Jingyin Temple) during the National Day holiday. This initiative provided complimentary entry for over 10,000 fans.
Throughout this period, the Cultural Heritage Bureau’s venues organized 127 offline activities and exhibitions, alongside 102 online events and virtual tours. The Jin Family Temple Museum hosted a range of cultural activities themed “Nurturing Dreams for a Brighter Future,” which included programs like “Little Red Army Bag: A Passage Through History,” “Fun through Painting: A Happy Touch,” and “Sculpting Clouds: Adding a Touch of Beauty.” Meanwhile, the Shanxi Museum offered themed activities such as “Stars of the Prosperous Era: Chasing Dreams Beneath the Sky” and “Brilliant Stars: Continuing the Legacy through Art.”
The Taishan Museum creatively leveraged Taishan’s cultural resources by introducing events like “Artistic Gathering: Elegance for All” and “Butterfly’s Love in the Tomb.” Additionally, the Shanxi National Normal University Memorial Museum conducted patriotic educational activities themed “Me and My Country,” while the Jin Merchant Museum hosted events like “Youth Celebrates the National Day with Party Spirit.”
According to a report from Trip.com, ticket orders in Shanxi saw a remarkable year-on-year increase of 59% during this year’s National Day holiday, with inbound orders rising by 71%. Datong earned a spot among the top ten fastest-growing destinations, while Linfen’s Xixian, Yuncheng’s Ruicheng, and Shuozhou’s Yingxian emerged as top ten county destinations. The most popular attractions in Taiyuan included the Jin Family Temple Museum, Taiyuan Botanical Garden, Taiyuan Fantawild Oriental Heritage, Taishan, Shanxi Museum, the Ancient County Town of Taiyuan, China Coal Museum, Manjianghong Film and Television Base, Taiyuan Zoo, and the Northern Qi Murals Museum.
