A four-year-old boy of Chinese descent has been declared out of danger following a serious accident near 8th Avenue in Brooklyn. The child was walking alone when he was hit by a vehicle, sustaining multiple injuries before being rushed to the hospital. This incident has caught the attention of the local Chinese community in Brooklyn. On October 19, the boy was moved from intensive care to a standard hospital room, signaling that he was no longer in critical condition and is now undergoing further rehabilitation.
Nicole Huang, the head of a New York-based parent support group in contact with the boy’s family, shared insights about his condition. When he was admitted to the hospital on the 7th, his situation was quite grave. He had a significant head injury and suffered fractures in his thigh and hip. After surgery, he remained in intensive care for close monitoring. On October 13, doctors found that he had developed a lung infection and needed respiratory support.
By October 19, doctors assessed that the boy was no longer in life-threatening condition and transferred him to a regular ward for rehabilitation. He is now able to sit up, and his mother expressed satisfaction with his recovery progress. Since the accident, both of his parents have left their jobs to care for him, making it even more challenging as they also have a twin brother and an older sister to look after. The mother thanked the community for their support, stating that she would reach out for help if necessary.
In her remarks about the four-year-old’s injuries, Nicole Huang also presented several video clips of other traffic incidents. One clip showed a schoolboy being hit while crossing Fort Hamilton Parkway near PS 160 on July 25. Another incident recorded on October 19 captured a child crossing the road carelessly at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 54th Street, nearly being struck by a car. Huang emphasized that the boy’s injuries were not an isolated incident, urging parents to keep a close watch on their children and avoid letting them wander alone on busy streets.
The accident that injured the four-year-old occurred at the intersection of Fort Hamilton Parkway and 59th Street. After the crash, the driver involved remained at the scene and was later detained by police. It was reported that the driver’s license was already suspended. However, as of October 21, police stated that no arrests had been made and the investigation is still ongoing.
